Commutes in Miami came to a smoking halt this morning as twin trash blazes erupted along the Interstate 95 overpass, sending toxic black fumes skyward and causing major traffic disruptions. Firefighters were quick to respond to the scene near 195th Avenue and Northwest 69th Street where Skyforce 7 captured images of the fire at around 7 a.m., as reported by WSVN. The smoke, dense and dark from the combustion of tires and garbage, prompted advisements for local residents to keep their windows firmly shut.
Not even a few feet away, another stack of refuse had similarly burst into flames, further complicating the situation. According to Local10, Miami Fire Rescue confirmed the outbreak of the two separate fires early that morning, both spaced just two blocks apart. The crews quickly managed to quickly douse the fires, allowing the morning traffic to eventually resume its normal flow.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation by authorities as they sift through the charred remnants. Meanwhile, fire officials stayed back to gauge the extent of the damage inflicted by the high-heat fires on the overpass structure. An inspector has been dispatched to determine whether the integrity of the cement has been compromised, as per the integrity concerns noted by WSVN.
The fires, disruptive albeit temporary, are a concerning spectacle for Miami residents. Once the flames were extinguished, the questions invariably kindled on how such a spectacle came to pass underneath one of the city's major arteries. Investigations procrastinate to unravel the cause of the fires, while fire crews and infrastructural safeguards stand alert, ready to react to the city's perennial dance with unforeseen chaos.
