Miami Beach Father Charged with Child Neglect for Leaving 4-Year-Old Alone in SUV AgainSource: Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation

A Miami Beach father has been arrested for the second time after he left his 4-year-old son unattended in his SUV, authorities confirmed.

Officers were alerted to the child by a concerned woman who spotted the toddler alone in a white Chevrolet Suburban parked in a bicycle lane near 1600 Washington Ave., Miami Beach police stated; to make things worse, when they arrived, they found that the car had been turned off, the keys were left in the ignition, and the vehicle’s rear passenger window was all the way down, potentially exposing the young child to myriad dangers.

Osman Karatas, the 34-year-old father, was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges, including child neglect, as Local10 reported; this arrest comes following a prior incident in 2022 in which he was also apprehended for leaving the same boy, then 2 years old, in a car while he was inside the Clevelander with his wife — an act which also led to both parents being charged with child neglect.

The recent incident occurred after Karatas allegedly left his son to retrieve items from his business, he claimed that he had left his child momentarily but the woman who reported the situation said the boy had been left alone for over 10 minutes and she feared he could be kidnapped or in distress,

Fortunately, upon arrival of the police, the boy appeared calm and in good health, and was subsequently released to his mother, Sevda Karatas; meanwhile a Florida Department of Children and Families investigator has been informed about the incident, according to Global Media Pulse.

Besides facing child neglect charges, Karatas has also been charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle for more than 15 minutes.
