An Ottawa County couple's vision problems led them to initially underestimate their lottery win, twice. After the husband, 73, and his wife scratched off their "$10 Holiday Wishes" ticket, they thought they snagged a relatively minor prize. "We both have bad eyesight, so when my wife scratched it off, she thought we won $5. I looked it over and thought we won $500," the husband remarked, according to a FOX 2 Detroit report. It was their son who recognized it as a staggering $500,000 win, which the father described as a "huge life-changing event" in conversation with the family.
The couple, who preferred anonymity, purchased their ticket at a Marathon gas station in Spring Lake. Their experience with "My Lottery Dream Home," as reported by newsobserver, probably never hinted at such a turn of fortunes.
"This Holiday Wishes ticket was the third scratch-off ticket we’d ever bought," the man told WZZM 13,
Now that their monetary status has taken a high jump, the couple plans on splurging a bit of their new wealth, with intentions to visit Paris, settle some bills, and donate a generous portion to charity."We called our son, and the first thing he said was: ‘This is a huge, life-changing event! "Winning truly is going to be life-changing for us." the winner revealed as the same awe seeped through the family's reaction to the news. According to a press release from the Michigan Lottery, Holiday Wishes offers three jackpots of $500,000, aside from 13 $2,000 prizes.
Gazing into their future laden with half a million dollars, the couple, who had only recently turned to the allure of scratch-off tickets, had been playing draw games since the genesis of the Michigan Lottery.
