In the quiet town of Pembroke Park, Florida, turmoil has been brewing within its local government, leading to the criminal charging of Commissioner Geoffrey Jacobs for allegedly misusing the 911 emergency system, as reported by WSVN. Jacobs is accused of initiating a 911 call during a November town commission meeting which prompted the police chief to search Mayor Ashira Mohammed's bag for a weapon which was not found.
The controversial call happened back in November, casting shadows over Pembroke Park's governance, after Jacobs, during a commissioner meeting, accused Mayor Mohammed of carrying a gun, the search conducted by the police chief was fruitless, no weapon was found despite the serious allegations by Jacobs, “It has come to my attention that the police have been called, because there is an allegation by the commissioner that I have a weapon on me, particularly that I have a gun on me,” Mayor Mohammed stated in a commission addressing the accusation WSVN reports.
The charge of misuse of the 911 system was determined by Broward prosecutors after a thorough investigation by the town's police department was provided to them. Documents revealed that Jacobs, 48, claimed he had been "threatened" by the mayor's family and friends and felt “targeted” by her through code enforcement issues saying, "The Town's Commission is corrupt and needs to be investigated," as Local 10 News obtained from police statements.
Details emerging from the incident indicate Jacobs expressed distrust towards the Pembroke Park Police Department which led him to bypass local authorities by calling the Broward Sheriff's Office, he repeatedly stated he didn't trust the Police Chief, this compounding what the acting city manager described as a previously unseen behavior from Mayor Mohammed, never had he seen her carrying a firearm on the property according to Local 10 News.
Jacobs has not been jailed but was given a misdemeanor summons and is due for an arraignment hearing on April 9. Local 10 News reached out to Jacobs for comment but did not receive a response at the time of reporting.
