Phoenix motorists, brace yourselves for a challenging weekend on the roads. Major construction on one of the busiest freeways in the city is going to make life a little harder for those navigating the concrete arteries of the Valley of the Sun. According to the AZ Family, a significant stretch of eastbound Interstate 10 will be shut down from 10 p.m. tonight to 4 a.m. Monday due to the ongoing I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. This closure spans from state Route 51 to the U.S. 60 Superstition Freeway.

For those looking to still traverse the east and central parts of the city, it's going to be complicate. All ramps to the eastbound I-10 between Third Street and Baseline Road will be clamped shut, including the ramps from the southbound State Route 51 and westbound Loop 202. Additionally, Arizona Department of Transportation is putting the kibosh on the Interstate 17 southbound connection to I-10 eastbound near Sky Harbor Airport, along with the associated onramps at Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue. The I-10 Broadway Curve official website suggests using alternate routes like the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway as a detour for those heading toward the Southeast Valley from the West Valley.

And there's more — the U.S. 60 eastbound will be another no-go zone between the Loop 202 junctions and Crismon Road from 9 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements, as stated by the AZ Family. Those who frequently travel this route will have to find solace on side streets like Baseline or Southern Avenue for the weekend's eastward journeys.

Prepping for next week? Take note: The Loop 101 Price Freeway will convert to a one-lane crawl northbound from Guadalupe Road to the Loop 202 Red Mountain in Tempe, from Sunday night to early Monday for lane striping work. And the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway between Val Vista Drive and Arizona Avenue will be down to a mere one or two lanes during overnight hours Sunday through Tuesday, confirms AZ Family. Drivers may need to budget extra travel time or seek an alternative route to skirt the slowdown.
