A Phoenix man is behind bars following a grim confession to the killing of his elderly parents. Jim Miller, age 38, was arrested early Monday after Phoenix Police responded to a distress call from the family home located near State Route 51 and Bell Road.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, authorities were dispatched to the residence shortly before 5:15 a.m. on Feb. 12, where Miller hastily met them outside and alleged that people were dead inside. Initial statements given to officers claimed that Miller's father, Sam Miller, 73, had shot his wife Marjorie Valentine, 72, before turning the gun on himself.
However, in a twist, detectives interviewed Miller and he subsequently admitted to having shot his parents during the night. The Phoenix Police Department has since charged him with two counts of first-degree murder. As reported by AZ Family, the alleged parricide left a roommate, who was also in the home at the time of the incident, unharmed. The motive behind the double homicide remains unclear as the investigation continues.
The local community has been shaken by the event. Neighbors described the area as usually quiet and expressed their dismay over the tragic occurrence. Vivian Brown, a local resident of 15 years, told FOX 10 Phoenix, "It’s very quiet. I’ve been here 15 years like I said, but I’m still in shock. I’m just concerned if there are any kids that are in the house. Because that’s my main concern." The incident left no children harmed, but the psychological remnants will likely linger within the community for some time to come.
The investigation prompted hours of evidence collection at the scene, with detectives sectioning off the road. Jim Miller awaits legal processing and the case will to continue to develop as more information becomes available. Neighbors are on high alert as the community grapples to understand how such violence could unfold in their midst.
