A Suwanee apartment complex became the scene of an urgent evacuation Monday morning as a fire, sparked by an innocuous act of smoking on a balcony, tore through several units. The Gwinnett County fire brigade was dispatched to The Residences on McGinnis Ferry following reports of the blaze at approximately 10:44 a.m., as ACCESSWDUN detailed.
First responders were met with active flames, originating from the third-floor balcony, that had aggressively spread into the attic space of the building. Despite the rapid escalation of the inferno, the fire crews managed to deploy three hose lines to extinguish the fire. In the commotion, five apartments sustained heavy water damage, and all residents were safely evacuated from the imperiled building –with no significant injuries or medical complaints reported.
