Residents of Ramsey County who speak Spanish or Hmong will soon be able to communicate more effectively with their local government, thanks to a new initiative aimed at enhancing language-specific support. Starting this February, those reaching out to the Ramsey County Call Center at (651-266-8500) will have the option to converse with staff in their preferred language, simplifying the process of accessing services and information.

According to an announcement made on the Ramsey County official website, the service will follow a straightforward procedure. Callers are instructed to dial the center's number, follow audio directions to select their language preference, and then choose the desired service extension. If staffing permits and a Spanish or Hmong-speaking representative is available, they'll assist the caller in their selected language.

Expanding upon this effort, the Maplewood Mall Service Center will also be able to provide direct support to non-English speakers. This move reflects the county's recognition of the growing diversity within its population and the ongoing commitment to inclusivity and equal access to vital resources for all of its residents.

The implementation of these language services can potentially transform the experience of non-English speakers interacting with county services, allowing them to easily, and more importantly, effectively, advocate for their needs and navigate the resources available to them. For those seeking additional information regarding the new language options, Ramsey County has directed inquiries to Melinda Donaway, Manager of Enterprise Services.
