In a daring midday rescue, San Diego's quick-responding lifeguards saved four occupants from a sinking pontoon boat in Mission Bay on Thursday. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported that at approximately 12:40 p.m., they received an SOS from the distressed vessel. It began taking on water after a heavyweight tank suddenly shifted, trapping a passenger.
The SDFD lifeguards, known for their readiness to act swiftly, were forced to quickly utilize a tow rope to move the heavy two thousand pound water tank and free the trapped individual. The perilous situation was met with heroism and efficiency, averting what could have easily become a tragedy on the popular bay.
Three of the four souls onboard were escorted to the safety of Campland. At the same time, the fourth, who sustained minor injuries in the incident, was given immediate medical attention at the Ski Beach dock. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department's Facebook page, he was transported to a local hospital.
