Gunshots rang out in the early morning hours at a San Jose hotel, triggering a swift response from local law enforcement. The San Jose Police Department (SJPD) reported that patrol officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of North 4th Street following a shooting incident on January 30, just as the city was stirring to life at about 6:30 AM.
The police found an adult male victim, a San Jose resident whose identity has been withheld, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers quickly took action, administering lifesaving measures before the victim was rushed to a local hospital. After a critical period, the man's condition stabilized, and his injuries were fortunately downgraded from life-threatening, according to SJPD officials.
The case soon turned from rescue to investigation as detectives from SJPD's Assaults Unit took over. Their investigation identified Fernando Macias, 29, of San Jose, as the prime suspect. Macias was on the radar shortly after the incident, with a warrant issued swiftly for his arrest.
Macias eluded the police for almost two weeks until February 13th, when the Special Operations MERGE Unit cornered and arrested him at a hotel in Santa Clara. He was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of attempted homicide. However, his motives for the alleged crime linger in obscurity, still under the tight scrutiny of SJPD detectives.
With the suspect behind bars, the SJPD continues to delve into the incident, seeking to untangle the web of events that led to the near-fatal shooting. The police urge anyone with relevant information to aid their ongoing investigation, suggesting contact through Detective Weidner at [email protected] or by phone at 408-277-4161.
