In a failed attempt at a jewelry heist on January 30, San Mateo police apprehended two individuals connected to the crime. The suspect, known for previous involvement in jewel-related incidents, fled the jewelry store on East 3rd Avenue before taking any valuables due to being spooked.
Prompted by an alert employee, local law enforcement swiftly responded, chasing the suspect, who hopped into a black Volvo station wagon as a getaway vehicle. The pursuit was brief, ending on northbound Highway 101, where the police pulled over the Volvo and arrested the suspect, identified as Randolf Reiger, and the driver, Autumn Yates.
Reiger, a 35-year-old from Clearlake, faces multiple charges, including burglary and drug possession. Yates, a 23-year-old from Pennsylvania, is charged with possessing stolen property. Both were taken into custody at San Mateo County Jail.
The San Mateo Police Department credited the community's vigilance for the quick response, encouraging residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities. The authorities emphasized the importance of effective witness reporting. The collaboration between the community and law enforcement was highlighted as instrumental in the rapid resolution of the case.
