If you thought New York and Chicago were the sovereigns of the slice, think again. A recent study from Chicago’s Home Run Inn, a heavyweight in the frozen pizza sector, has yielded some surprising results: the West Coast is out-cheesing the traditional pie empires. Seattle, not the windy city nor the big apple, has claimed the crown for America’s most pizza-obsessed city, with San Francisco kneading into second place and Portland not far behind in third.

The study, doing a deep dive into the pizza loving habits of metropolises, managed to surprisingly show that coastal cities have to seemingly stretch the dough further to keep up with the pie demand. In a statement obtained by KRON4, it was revealed that Seattle boasts a whopping "46.2 percent of Seattle’s pizza joints earn above four stars on Yelp," and the passion for pizza doesn’t stop there. The city generates "46,562 pizza-related Google searches per 100,000 residents." That's a lot of folks looking to get their fix of the saucy dish.

Jumping down to the City by the Bay, the study also slices some impressive numbers for San Francisco. The city rolls out over 17,000 Yelp pizza reviews per 100,000 residents, showcasing that while they may not have the most pizzerias in the rankings, their residents are munching—and critiquing—a whole lot of pizza.

The methodology to bake up these rankings wasn’t half-baked either. The study, which was detailed on the Home Run Inn's company website, analyzes a plethora of pizza passion points—including "Google Searches Related to Pizza Keywords, Per 100K" and "Number of Pizza Restaurants Per 100K," the latter of which was completely dominated by Miami, boasting a density of 91.8 pizza restaurants per 100,000 citizens. This was detailed in a blog post from Chicago’s Home Run Inn, proving that while the East Coast didn’t top the charts, they’re not exactly lacking in pie shops per capita.

Yet, the study isn't just tossing pies in the air—it also grounded its findings in solid data. It turns out that the fervor for the cheesy delight is not only to be measured by sheer numbers or availability but also by the sheer enthusiasm of pizza aficionados themselves. Google searches related to pizza have proven insightful in indicating just how deep a city's love for pizza runs. It seems Atlanta can't get enough of pizza either, with the study highlighting that "Atlanta conducts an average of 78,662 searches per 100,000 residents," setting them ahead of other cities in the pizza search stats.

While New York and Chicago may not have snagged the top spots, they still hold bragging rights for taste. The average pizza restaurant's Yelp rating is a razor-thin competition, with New Yorkers rating their hair above Chicago, coming in at 3.67 against Chicago’s 3.66, according to the Home Run Inn's research.
