Early Sunday morning on Chicago's North Side, a string of violent robberies left multiple victims battered and without their possessions. According to NBC Chicago, the first attack occurred at around 1:20 a.m. in the West Ridge neighborhood, where a 35-year-old man was set upon by three armed assailants. In a brutal confrontation on the 6600 block of North Campbell, the man attempted to flee but was caught and pummeled before the trio made off with his phone and wallet. The victim was later admitted to a local hospital and listed in fair condition.
Within just over an hour, at 2:33 a.m., in the 7400 block of North Campbell, another incident unfolded involving a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. The pair were sitting in a parked car when they were ambushed by three individuals, who emerged from a blue sedan and brandishing firearms, Fox 32 Chicago reports. The assailants ordered them out of the vehicle, subjected the man to physical assault, and then pilfered the phones and wallets of both victims before escaping.
Despite the violent nature of these crimes, no suspects have been apprehended. The male victim from the second robbery refused medical treatment at the scene, further highlighting the grim resolve that often follows the shock of such sudden violence. Area Three detectives are actively investigating these incidents, though they have yet to release descriptions of the suspects involved.
The surge in violent street crime has been a growing concern for residents, with both incidents occurring near each other, both in time and location. A dark-colored sedan was mentioned in relation to the first robbery and a blue sedan in the second, suggesting a possible link between the attacks.
