A touch of ice in the desert: Scottsdale's latest high-end real estate listing has made waves on social media, thanks to its distinctive feature—a full-sized, private ice hockey rink. The sprawling estate, priced at $12.5 million, is set to set a new bar for luxury homes with athletic amenities tailored for the sports enthusiast.
The mansion, built in 2020 by former NHL goaltender John V. Curry, spans over 12,030 square feet and boasts an array of facilities not typically found in an Arizona abode. Beyond the rink, the home has eight bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, and a backyard equipped with a diving pool and an in-ground trampoline, as per The Business Journals.
As the property hit the market, an Instagram post by WayUp Media captivated over 26,000 viewers. The media outfit's video tour demonstrated someone skating through the mansion's luxurious spaces, right down to the rink itself—garnering comments from viewers enamored by the unconventional home addition. "Do it come with a Zamboni?" one user asked, highlighting the level of curiosity and amusement at such a unique residential perk.
However, for those less enthused by the chill of indoor ice, the mansion's offerings are versatile. Kathleen Benoit, Bee Francis, and Madelaine Elfgren of Russ Lyon Sotheby's International Realty, mentioned, "If an ice rink isn't desired, it could be also used for pickle ball and other sport activities or be removed and redone to a spa, workout room with golf simulator or home movie theater," in an interview with The New York Post.
The estate's primary suite features a secluded wing off the main floor with an office and a bathroom that opens to the pool through a second private entrance. The Arcadia area of the Silverleaf neighborhood in which it resides is known for its community-focused design complete with front porches, and the home itself is currently leased to a family of skaters until the end of the school year, says Benoit.
