Book lovers in Sterling Heights are in for a treat as the Sterling Heights CommUNITY Alliance and Sterling Heights Public Library team up to present "Page Turners Social", a unique take on the traditional book club scene. Set for April 1 from 6 to 7:45 p.m., the event welcomes adults to the local library to enjoy some reading, relaxation, and good old-fashioned conversation about their favorite books, according to the City of Sterling Heights.
Unlike the regular book club where everyone hashes out a preselected book, Page Turners Social gives attendees the freedom to dive into their book of choice or pick one from the library’s vast collection. They'll spend silent time absorbing the pages for 20, minutes, then can chat it up with others about the stories they're immersed in. "Page Turners Social is our version of a growing trend of ‘silent book clubs’ across the nation," said CommUNITY Alliance Secretary Michael Mazur, as per the City of Sterling Heights.
In creating a cozy environment, the library programming center will transform into a reader's haven complete with a virtual fireplace, ambient music, and even free literary-themed mocktails to sip on. Those who wish for a more laid-back setting can bring their blankets and pillows for a snug read on the floor.
"The library’s vision is an engaged community where all can discover, learn and grow," Natasha Rogers, who heads up public relations, and programs for the library, conveyed in a recent announcement. She added their goal is to create inviting spaces through engaging services; the Page Turners Social promises just that. With an open invitation to adults, young and old, Rogers expressed keen anticipation for the community's participation in this novel event, per the City of Sterling Heights.
