A man accused of robbing the mother of his child at gunpoint was nabbed by cops after a tense showdown in South Fulton. 29-year-old Anthony DeVaughn Edwards faced the law yesterday following a brief standoff involving multiple law enforcement units, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
The authorities charged Edwards with a slew of offenses, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with intent to rob, third-degree cruelty to children, and criminal trespass. It was on Robin Street in Decatur where he's alleged to have pulled a firearm on the woman, forcibly taking her cell phone and apartment keys, as per the victim's account detailed in the report by AOL. Investigators have indicated that children were present during the frightening incident.
After the standoff, Edwards decided to peacefully surrender to the South Metro SWAT and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Field Operations at an apartment building on Oakley Industrial Boulevard in Fairburn. His actions prior have left a trail of questions about his motives and the well-being of the children who witnessed the ordeal.
Edwards has since been processed and booked into the DeKalb County Jail, bringing a temporary close to what surely was a traumatic chapter for the family involved. Details around his detention reveal little about the man himself, but they do sketch a grim portrait of a disrupted domesticity that children, most undeservingly, had to witness firsthand.
