Two 16-year-old boys have been slapped with attempted murder charges after a brazen armed robbery escalated to a shooting of a 19-year-old woman in Chicago, according to police. The juveniles, whose names have not been released due to their age, were arrested on February 21, 2024, and are now facing a slew of serious charges stemming from the violent encounter that occurred last month.
The Chicago Police Department detailed the charges against the teens in a statement released Thursday. Offender #1 is charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder, one felony count of armed robbery with a firearm, and one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on a vehicle by a delinquent minor. Offender #2 faces a felony count of attempted murder in the first degree and a felony count of robbery armed with a firearm.
The violent episode unfolded on January 15, 2024, when the two suspects confronted the unnamed young woman in the 800 block of E. 46th St. in what police described as a calculated attack. After robbing her at gunpoint, the suspects shot her, leaving her with injuries for which the extent has not been publicly disclosed. The duo was apprehended over a month later in the 300 block of E. Garfield Blvd.
Investigators pieced together the events leading to the arrest of the two juveniles, who were subsequently placed into custody. As the case progresses through the juvenile justice system, no additional details concerning the circumstances of the incident or the current condition of the victim have been made available. The public has been kept in the dark regarding the motive behind the crime, as well as the teen's representation and their plea to the charges leveled against them.
