A San Mateo neighborhood was cordoned off as police launched a death investigation into the grim finding of four bodies, including two children, in a home on Alameda de las Pulgas. San Mateo Police Department arrived on the scene Monday morning after being called to perform a welfare check at the residence. There, they found an adult male and female, along with two children deceased, with the male and female suffering gunshot wounds, as reported by San Mateo Police Department.

While further details about the cause of death for the children have yet to be released, a 9mm pistol was found at the scene, leading the police to believe this to be an isolated incident. Residents were quick to reassure there was no ongoing danger to the public. "Our Criminal Investigation Bureau took over the investigation and responded to the scene," said a San Mateo Police representative. Complicating the case is that officers were able to enter the house through an unlocked window, as there were no signs of forced entry.

The events have heavily impacted local residents and commuters. Road closures in the area caused significant traffic delays. According to a report by Hoodline, traffic was shut down northbound on Alameda de las Pulgas at 42nd Ave, southbound at Fernwood St, and westbound 41st Ave to Kelton Ct. The police urged motorists to avoid the area as the investigation was underway.

The San Mateo Police Department has not yet indicated when the streets will reopen or when further updates on the investigation will be given.
