A heartbreaking scene unfolded in Northwest Miami-Dade early Friday morning, when two young children, ages 3 and 4, were declared dead following a medical emergency that prompted a large-scale police response. The Miami-Dade Police Department responded to a distressing scene around 2 a.m., near the interchange of Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike extension, WSVN reports.
According to the dispatch audio, a desperate situation unfolded with a woman's voice heard saying, "Two children in cardiac arrest. One person is performing CPR on one child." Another haunting detail came through the radio transmissions, when a voice noted, "The mom jumped off the highway onto the train tracks under, right where we are," as confirmed by a police spokesperson later that morning. The tragic incident has led to multiple road closures, including the ramp from North I-95 to Florida Turnpike North and the westbound Palmetto Expressway, which remained sealed off to traffic.
NBC Miami stated that road rangers set up blockades preventing access to the northbound on-ramp at Golden Glades, which connects drivers to the Palmetto Expressway and the Turnpike. Although the incident did not involve a collision, officers confirmed the involvement of two children, with further updates pending as the investigation continues.
Authorities are working to provide more details on this devastating case, with transit services in the area, such as the First Tri-Rail trains, also impacted due to the proximity of the investigation to the train tracks. Motorists have been advised to search for alternative routes to avoid the congestion and active scene while law enforcement and emergency services continue their work, to understand the circumstances that led to this unthinkable outcome. Updates are expected as officials, and first responders further analyze the scene and gather more information.
