
Two men have been charged by the Chicago Police Department in connection with an armed robbery that included gunfire, according to an official statement. Richard Vinet, 47, and Esteban Ocampo, 31, are facing multiple felony charges after being apprehended by officers in the early hours of January 31.
Vinet, of the 4400 block of N. Clifton Ave. in Chicago, faces two felony counts of armed robbery with the discharge of a firearm and one felony count for possession of a controlled substance. His partner in crime, Ocampo, from the 4900 block of S. Justine Ave., was charged with two felony counts of armed robbery with the discharge of a firearm. Both men were taken into custody less than two hours after the alleged crime took place.
A Chicago Police Department release reveals that the accused fired shots into the air and demanded property at gunpoint from two male victims on the 400 block of N. Ogden Ave in the 12th District. The incident reportedly took place 30 minutes before the arrest, while neither of the victims was hit by the gunfire.
The two men will face a detention hearing, scheduled for February 1, 2024, at 2600 S. California. As the case unfolds, Chicago Police have made it clear no further details are to be disclosed at this juncture.
