Two arrests have been made in connection with the January homicide in Antioch that left one man dead and another critically injured. The Antioch Police Department announced the apprehension of Lonnie Decker, 53, and Steven Kelly, 61, both residents of Antioch, after a painstaking investigation into the shooting that occurred on January 23.
According to a press release by the Antioch Police, the two men were implicated in the killing of 41-year-old Roberto Gonzalez Lamas and the attempted murder of the second victim, a 59-year-old male. Decker was nabbed in the City of Pioneer by the US Marshals Office Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force on February 7. Meanwhile, Kelly was detained by local police in Pittsburg on February 12.
Both suspects were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of murder and attempted murder, in addition to parole violations. After the district attorney's office reviewed the case, the duo faces grave charges. The Antioch Police expressed their gratitude for the assistance received from both the United States Marshals Service and the Amador County Sheriff's Office, which contributed to the rapid apprehension of the alleged murderers.
The initial incident shook the community as police responded to alerts of gunfire on the unit block of Bryan Avenue late that January night. The responding officers found two critically wounded men and provided emergency aid until paramedics could transport the victims to a local hospital. Despite the medical team's efforts, Gonzalez Lamas did not survive, while the second victim, whose name has been withheld pending family notification, battled life-threatening injuries. Tips from the community played a crucial role, with the police department urging anyone with further information to reach out to Detective Gragg or their non-emergency line.
