Pearsall Independent School District has shuttered its doors for the day due to a crunch in the water supply. The lone well keeping the taps running isn't enough to meet the needs of the district's schools, pushing the administration to call a timeout on Tuesday's classes.

District officials and maintenance crews were scrambling to patch things up. The district announced the closure early Tuesday in a Facebook post, noting that only one of its water wells was operational. Without a sufficient water supply, the shutdown was the only viable move to guarantee the health and safety of students and staff.

The other well, which usually keeps the water pressure steady, is out of commission and under repair. Pearsall ISD officials have given assurances that repair work on the disabled well is swiftly moving ahead, though, at the time of writing, no fixed timeline for the work's completion has been communicated.

While classes were canceled, parents and students were left playing the waiting game, trusting that the repair job wouldn't turn into a saga. The district apologized for any inconvenience and promised to keep the public posted. "Repairs on the second well are ongoing but are expected to be complete shortly," according to the district's Facebook post.
