A tense standoff with a SWAT team in South Austin ended without bloodshed after a man armed with an assault rifle and donning body armor surrendered to authorities. According to FOX 7 Austin, the ordeal was initiated Thursday morning when residents in the 2100 block of Amur Drive witnessed an armed man yelling through a fence and later pointing his rifle at them as they recorded.
The incident triggered an urgent police response around 8:10 a.m., and the situation quickly escalated, necessitating the deployment of the APD SWAT team. Fear took hold of the neighborhood as residents were advised to stay indoors through a reverse 911 call, and a nearby school went into a precautionary lockdown, detailed in an interview by KVUE.
After SWAT officers surrounded the home, the suspect capitulated, exiting his residence with hands raised at 10:08 a.m. He was arrested and is faced with charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with the possibility of additional charges, as per the Austin Police Department.
