The Bay Area has been issued with a series of weather advisories as a cold front hits the region hard, bringing gusty winds and rain showers throughout Saturday, according to the National Weather Service San Francisco. Despite a brief respite expected Saturday morning, San Franciscans should gear up for a final round of intense showers and possible thunderstorms by the afternoon, with the Weather Service reporting that winds could continue blowing strong as the system passes through.

Residents faced gusts as high as 55 mph overnight Friday, and while there will be some sunshine this morning the city is not out of the woods yet, the winds will shift from southwest to westerly and, remain strong through the evening, the Weather Service detailed in an Area Forecast Discussion. San Francisco International Airport is expecting breezy conditions with gusts reaching 20-25 knots today, while visibility on the roads could be reduced during the heaviest showers.

Looking ahead, the Weather Service's long term forecast predicts that high pressure will build behind the front, with a moderating gradient and lighter winds by Sunday. However, Bay Area denizens should brace for a chilling cold with morning temperatures on Sunday and Monday mornings dipping into the mid-30s to low-40s, "Cold temperatures will persist through Monday," the service advised.

Mariners aren't left out of the mix with a High Surf Advisory in effect until 4 PM PST Saturday and a Gale Warning for coastal areas just off Point Pinos to Point Piedras Blancas, the Weather Service says turbulent conditions are expected to persist with a northwest swell lasting through the weekend, before conditions ease off; heading into the new week, the waters may calm down, but a new northwest swell train's already on the horizon.
