Bay Area residents, it's time to soak up the sun while you can. According to the National Weather Service's San Francisco forecast office, we're in for a stellar weekend, with a high-pressure system giving us clear skies and temperatures flirting with the 70 mark. "A transient, high amplitude ridge sets up over the region today, promoting wonderful weather to start the weekend," said the morning briefing. Better savor that vitamin D because the weather's taking a turn next week.

Starting Saturday, you'll need to dust off those umbrellas. A series off, oops, a series of troughs off the Gulf of Alaska is scheduled to gatecrash our sunny streak, bringing "light rain chances" to dial down our spirits. The first in this series is looking to give a particularly wet handshake to the North Bay come Saturday morning. And by Sunday, the NWS warns, the entire Bay Area and Central Coast can expect to see more than just a sprinkle. "Moderate to breezy westerly winds build in the afternoon and linger into the evening," according to the forecast discussion.

The @NWSBayArea hints at a silver lining after we weather the damp patch. "We still have cool temps and a few rounds of light rain to get through from Saturday through the middle of next week, but it looks warm and dry for a while after that." The marathon of moisture is expected to be gentle on the rain gauge, with showers doling out a disparate 0.5" to 2" across varied regions.

Mariners, too, are in for a bumpy ride, as a "moderate to large NW swell is building in, causing rough seas across the waters," the NWS notes. But, just like their landlubber counterparts, smoother sailing is forecasted post-patch. The surge of warmth towards the end of next week is tagged to a strong high-pressure ridge aiming for the coast, set to crank up the thermostat to a toasty 70s ensemble.
