The Bexar County Adult Detention Center (BCADC) has cleared its annual check-up with flying colors, Sheriff Javier Salazar announced, after several years of failing to meet state regulations. A press release from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office confirmed the facility's successful passage of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) inspection, which took place from March 12 to March 14, the San Antonio Report states.
During the surprise visit by TCJS, the Bexar County jail was noted for having "a few areas for improvement", despite these minor issues, which were quickly corrected on-site by jail staff, Sheriff Salazar described the outcome as "a resounding success" and assured the public that a full report would be published soon, according to the San Antonio Report. It was a turnaround for a detention center that had faced criticism in the past, it now stands as a model with embeddings of improved morale among staff and inmates, increased facility cleanliness, and well-organized documentation.
Speaking to the successes, Fox San Antonio reported that Sheriff Salazar was proud of the advancements made, crediting his command staff for setting high standards and the deputies for their hard work and dedication. Noteworthy was the reported inmate contentment with their access to medical care, a critical component in the standards set for inmate welfare.
In the aftermath of the inspection, the Sheriff took to heart the chance to commend his workforce stating"I'm extremely grateful to our command staff for continuing to raise the bar with high standards and clear expectations. I'm even more proud of the men and women of the BCSO who exceed expectations. This report is a testament to their hard work and dedication," as reported by Fox San Antonio.
