Speeding through Dorchester streets in the early hours of Saturday lands a man behind bars with a loaded gun in his lap. Boston Police officers, part of the Youth Violence Strike Force, pulled over a vehicle after witnessing reckless driving, according to a press release by the Boston Police Department. The sedan was zooming at an estimated 50 MPH on Washington Street and was flagged for having a revoked registration.
The stop, which took place at around 12:48 AM near 13 Harvard Street in Dorchester, revealed more than traffic infractions; the driver, identified as 32-year-old Jerome Anderson from the same neighborhood, was arrested after the officers found he had no driver's license and carried a foreboding Interarms Ltd .45 caliber handgun, unsettlingly ready with one live round in the chamber and nine others awaiting in the magazine.
Authorities also discovered a machete during an inventory of the vehicle, which was to be towed, raising concerns about the intentions behind these weapons. Jerome Anderson is now set to face the music at the Dorchester District Court where he will reply to charges that cast a long shadow over any notions of innocence: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID card, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, which are but a few in the litany of allegations that include Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Speeding.
