A South Florida community is in turmoil as families report their children being prey to dog attacks, prompting calls for Broward County officials to take stronger measures. According to WSVN 7News, locals are demanding that the dogs be officially labeled 'dangerous' after several incidents involving neighborhood pets.

King Davis, an 8-year-old resident, bears physical, and emotional scars from an attack where a dog bit him several times, leaving claw marks and necessitating stitches in nine of his wounds. "I got bit, like up in here, in my stomach over here. And my finger is, well, one is broken," King described his ordeal in a statement obtained by WSVN 7News. The young boy's fear is palpable as he said, "I just feel so frightened and I start to shake a lot."

Brittany Sanguinetti, King's mother, relayed the horror she felt receiving a call while at work about her son's attack. "Couldn’t even work my phone, my GPS, because I’m hysterically crying after seeing like on FaceTime so much blood all over the street and over the front door, the living room and stuff," she told KTVZ. "Hearing him like, say to my mom, like, ‘Grandma, I don’t want to die, grandma, I don’t want to die.’"

Despite these harrowing experiences, local authorities have been criticized for their response. A Broward County spokesperson indicated that the dogs cannot be declared 'dangerous' until the victims provide sworn statements, a step that, the families contend, they were never advised to take. "We have them on camera, we have pictures of them. What is it going to take for you guys to make these people be responsible for their dogs injuring people?" Sanguinetti questioned in a statement obtained by WSVN 7News.

And recent developments complicate the situation further. According to WSVN 7News, the owner of the dogs in question claims that the pet is not inherently aggressive, suggesting that the dog's actions were in response to being provoked. After another incident where the same dogs were involved in chasing and biting a 14-year-old, the owner refrained from commenting further. Meanwhile, King's family is left to navigate their trauma and the community's safety concerns remain unresolved, despite the dog owner's indication of intent to relocate.
