A Cannon County man, aged 62, has been handed an 11-year sentence for a series of bank robberies across Nashville. Clifton Knight of Woodbury, Tennessee, will also face three years of supervised release following his prison term, in a case brought by the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Knight, who pled guilty in August 2023 to the charges, began his crime spree early last year, hitting a SunTrust Bank on January 4, 2022, and fleeing with over $3,000. He didn't stop there, a month later, on February 4, he struck another SunTrust Bank, this time in Hermitage. There, he intimidated a bank clerk before making off with more than $5,000. Merely four days afterward, Knight robbed a Fifth Third Bank on Donelson Pike, where his haul exceeded $4,000.
The series of robberies triggered an intensive investigation by the Metro Nashville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which eventually led to Knight's arrest and conviction. The Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph P. Montminy, who prosecuted the case, confirmed the sentence.
According to a statement from the United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis's office, "In August 2023, Knight pled guilty to a three-count Indictment charging him with three bank robberies in Nashville." The announcement, was made following the sentence given today, signifies the culmination of efforts by law enforcement to bring Knight to justice.
