Casa Grande drivers, Starting April 1st, the city's arteries will slightly be clogged as roadworks for the Kortsen Road Sewer Relief Project take a turn towards Thornton Road. The intersection at Thornton Road and Desert Sky Drive is set to be shut down through April 12th to make way for critical infrastructure upgrades. City officials are warning motorists to prepare for detours and possible delays.

The detour inconvenience, described by the city as necessary to accommodate new pipe installations, will specifically affect Thornton Road between Desert Sky Drive and Kortsen Road, off-limits to through traffic. To somewhat ease the disturbance, Thornton Road's stretch from Cottonwood Lane to Desert Sky Drive will remain open, but just for local traffic, primarily serving Sundance Resort 2 occupants. In a statement obtained by the city's official announcement, the City of Casa Grande's Public Work Department urged commuters to "follow the detours and drive cautiously through the traffic control."

This sewer project is no small task. Spanning over four and a half miles, the project traces a path from the Henness Road alignment, snakes along Kortsen Road, and finally pours into the City's Water Reclamation Facility. According to the city's public release, the massive undertaking is set to supercharge the city's sewer capacity by a whopping 9 million gallons per day. That's the kind of upgrade that stands to effectively brace the city for its expected growth spurt.
