Casa Grande police are actively hunting for a suspect after a deadly shooting incident that resulted in the death of one man this past Monday. The suspect, 49-year-old Marcus Hatton, is wanted for the alleged murder of 45-year-old Steve Shinault and was last seen fleeing the scene of the crime.
Officials at the Casa Grande Police Department report that the shooting occurred shortly after 7:45 a.m. in a residential neighborhood. Hatton and Shinault, who reportedly knew each other, were said to be "engaged in an altercation outside of a residence" before the violence erupted, leaving Shinault with multiple gunshot wounds. In an attempt to survive, Shinault tried to hastily drive away and, in his haste, crashed into two homes, causing significant structural damage to one, as stated by FOX 10 Phoenix.
According to a neighbor's interview with FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident has left the community shaken, as the area is typically known for its tranquility. "It feels like the big city stuff is creeping its way into the tiny Casa Grande. That stuff just doesn’t happen here," said Jennifer Tannert, whose home was severely damaged by the victim's crashed vehicle.
Local authorities are urging anyone with information on Hatton's whereabouts to come forward. Hatton is considered to be "armed and dangerous," and citizens are being cautioned not to approach him directly, rather to immediately contact Casa Grande PD Det. Brandon Garcia, as per the Casa Grande Police direction. This plea for public assistance was also echoed by ABC15, which published pertinent contact details for the police and Silent Witness hotline.
