A woman was pulled from a dry well in Chandler by firefighters Monday morning after taking a 15-foot tumble the night before. According to AZfamily.com, emergency crews responded to a 911 call just before 9:30 a.m. near Arizona Avenue and Pecos Road. The rescue operation lasted over an hour, with the woman safely extracted from the well around 10:45 a.m.

Chandler Fire Battalion Chief Carlos Vargas told FOX 10 Phoenix that the victim, believed to be in her 30s or 40s, had hip and leg injuries which prevented her from using the metal ladder within the well to climb out. The woman maintained consciousness throughout the ordeal and was able to talk us through the whole operation, Vargas said. An unidentified person reportedly stayed with her all night, but their relation to the victim or the circumstances leading to the fall remain unclear.

The location, earmarked for a future construction project, had been cordoned off with fencing, leading officials to question why the woman crossed the barriers and ended up in the concrete-lined well. Vargas stated "We're not sure what her reasoning was for crossing the fences, and we're not sure how she fell into it."

The woman, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was hoisted up using a tripod and mechanical system designed for such technical rescues. She was then taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. The incident reportedly occurred roughly seven hours before the woman made contact for help using her cellphone.
