A Chicago man has been slapped with felony robbery charges after allegedly strong-arming a woman for postal property last year, police said. Michael Valentine, 38, of the 900 block of E. 49th St., was cuffed on February 29 and is accused of the brazen daylight robbery that occurred on November 8, 2023.
Officials claim Valentine forcibly took items from the victim around 12:15 p.m. in the 11300 block of S. Calumet Ave in the city’s 5th District. The suspect was nabbed in his home neighborhood, and identified as the assailant who targeted the unsuspecting woman. Authorities have since to fully disclose additional details surrounding the case.
Chicago Police reported that Valentine is now charged with one count of felony robbery and was scheduled for a detention hearing on March 1, 2024, at 2600 S. California. The charge comes after a meticulous investigation leading up to Valentine's arrest near where the incident supposedly took place.
The accused has yet to make a statement or enter a plea concerning the charge. He remains in custody pending the outcome of his detention hearing. The Chicago Police Department has encouraged anyone with further information on the robbery to step forward, promising to ensure the safety of all parties involved.
