Residents of Chicago's 9th District are on high alert after a spree of brazen early morning armed robberies rattled the Deering community this March. According to the Chicago Police Department's community alert, two male suspects, clad in all black and armed with handguns outfitted with blue laser attachments, have been terrorizing locals, forcibly claiming their personal belongings.
The two incidents that shook the neighborhood occurred within hours of each other, with the first on the 2800 Block of West 48th Place at 3:30 A.M., and the second following closely at 5:17 A.M. on the 4600 Block of South Washtenaw Avenue. Authorities describe the getaway vehicles used in these incidents as either a grey SUV or a brown Jeep. In a daring move, the criminals have not hesitated to boldly approach their victims directly on the street to swiftly carry out their plans and then flee the scene.
Community members are urged to maintain vigilance and to report any suspicious activity promptly to the police. In the face of such a threat, the department advises remaining calm if confronted and taking note of any distinguishing features of the assailants that could aid law enforcement in their capture. It's vital for the safety of all that none try to heroically pursue these dangerous individuals, but instead focus on providing detailed information to the authorities.
Local law enforcement is also calling for any individuals who may have video surveillance of the area to save and provide copies of the footage. They emphasized the importance of collecting contact information from any witnesses that may have approached the victims. The overarching message is clear—do not engage, but rather be the eyes and ears for the police and "immediately dial 9-1-1" to give everyone the best chance to swiftly bring these criminals to justice.
