Concern is high across Chicago's 18th District as police ramp up efforts to identify a man connected to a shocking incident of violence and attempted theft on the CTA Purple Line last week. In a morning rush that turned violent on March 21, a man allegedly assaulted another passenger in an attempt to snatch their bag while aboard a train near W. Chicago Ave.
The Chicago Police Department released a community alert, alongside images of the suspect, described as an African American male, aged between 30-40, with a height ranging from 5'10" to 6'0", and weighing around 160 to 190 lbs; he was last seen wearing a dark coat, adorned with a tan fur collar, tan or brown pants, red gym shoes, and carrying a pink backpack, this suspect is believed to have used his fist to strike the victim before trying to make off with their possessions.
Passengers are reminded by authorities to stay vigilant, to always be aware of their surroundings, and, above all, never to engage or pursue a fleeing suspect. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately by dialing 9-1-1, and police encourage anyone with information on the identity of the would-be robber to come forward.
