A 16-year-old male has been taken into custody and slapped with a robbery charge, Chicago police divulged Wednesday. The teen, whose identity is being shielded due to his juvenile status, is accused of participating in a brazen theft in the city's bustling Near North Side neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Police Department's news release, the incident occurred a mere couple of hours before the suspect was nabbed on the evening of March 4. The victim, a 42-year-old man, was forcefully relieved of his belongings by the young offender, and another individual who remains at large, police say the crime took place in the 800 block of W. North Ave.
The apprehension unfolded in the 1100 block of N. Halsted where the juvenile was taken into custody at approximately 6:58 p.m. The Chicago PD stated that the identification of the suspect was achieved swiftly leading to the subsequent charges.
"The offender was placed into custody, and charged accordingly," confirmed the police department in the statement. As the case involves a minor, details are scant and the investigation is ongoing. The police have not released any further information about the robbery or whether they have any leads on the second suspect involved in the theft, at this time.
