An 18-year-old from Chicago has been slapped with felony charges for a violent carjacking incident that occurred late last month, authorities said. Edward Williams, who hails from the 3500 block of W. Lexington St., is accused of using a gun to forcibly relieve a 40-year-old woman of her property and vehicle, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Williams faces one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking and another for armed robbery, with both charges stipulating the use of a firearm, as per the police report. The alleged crime took place on February 28, around 11:05 p.m. in the vicinity of the 9600 block of S. Brennan Ave. Within minutes after the incident, the suspect was detained by law enforcement at approximately 11:35 p.m., on S. Michigan Ave, police said.
Investigators were able to link Williams to the offense following the incident, which plunged the victim into an unexpected nightmare on her quiet residential street. The details surrounding the apprehension were not immediately made public. However, the detention hearing for the accused is set for today at a courthouse located at 2600 S. California Ave, according to the police's online statement.
