A water main near Greenacres and Lake Worth Beach in Palm Beach County ruptured Saturday morning, leading to an urgent response from local utility crews. The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) announced the incident occurred around 10 a.m. due to an outside contractor hitting the main during construction activities at the former Forest Oaks Golf Course site, as per their news release.

The rupture took place on the south side of Lake Worth Road near Charleston Street, just west of Jog Road. This unfortunate mishap is close to both a fire rescue station and the Lucerne Lakes subdivision, impacting residents within the community. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank the community for patience and understanding as we complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible," the utility department said in a statement obtained by WPTV.

PBCWUD technicians were dispatched and managed to isolate the main, mitigating the situation for many households in the area. Despite the swift response, affected residents have been issued boil water notices, and traffic has been rerouted to accommodate the repair work. Thankfully, the wastewater collection services remain unaffected by the break.

While the crews work around the clock, the Department has made it clear that repair work will be ongoing until further notice. In response to the community's concerns, PBCWUD has committed to providing frequent updates as the situation develops. Details on the full extent of the disruption and a timetable for a return to normal service are yet to be clarified, with residents keenly awaiting the restoration of their water supply.
