
A shootout that erupted earlier this month in Nashville's J.C. Napier community has led to the rearrest of a convicted felon, who is now facing a slew of charges including attempted criminal homicide. The man accused 44-year-old Jozmel Hugger, was apprehended by detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division on charges about the March 8 incident, during which a 40-year-old victim was injured but survived.
The confrontation between Hugger and the victim allegedly began with a verbal dispute that quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire, the victim managed to return fire during the altercation but ultimately suffered injuries. Following the shootout, the injured party sought medical attention at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, arriving by private vehicle, with wounds deemed not life-threatening.
Law enforcement officials were able to track down Hugger on Charles E. Davis Boulevard, where he was found in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest. According to the Nashville Police Department, Hugger's criminal history includes a conviction for aggravated robbery dating back to 2004.
In addition to the attempted criminal homicide charge, Hugger is now facing two counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and two counts of felony gun possession, Hugger remains detained in lieu of a $710,000 bond.
