The Japanese retailer known for its eclectic mix of affordable goods, Daiso, is opening a new location in South Austin on April 6. This store, which will be housed at Sunset Valley Marketfair at 5400 Brodie Lane, Suite 990, will become one of three Daiso establishments gracing the Austin area, joining stores in North Austin and Round Rock. Shoppers near Spec's, Target, the Home Depot, and the Violet Crown Trailhead at Highway 290 can now enjoy a wealth of inexpensive treats ranging from art supplies to home organization essentials.

Those who show up early during the grand opening weekend, April 6 and 7, will be in for a special treat. The first 100 patrons who spend at least $30 will not only walk away with their treasures but also snag a free goodie bag and a plushie, according to CultureMap Austin. "We are thrilled to open our store at Sunset Valley Marketfair," said Daiso USA's Chief Retail Operations Officer, Jack Williams, in a press statement. The store is set to serve the community in a sprawling, well-ordered 10,000 square feet of retail space.

The company's rapid expansion in the United States is a direct response to American consumer interest. Daiso has been operating in the U.S. since 2005 and currently has 123 locations spread across seven states. "Austin-based Daiso customers have shown us through our online business and social media their desire for us to have more stores within the state, influencing our immediate growth strategy in this region," John Clarke, Chief Development Officer for Daiso USA, told KVUE.

The store, ready to vie for consumer attention against similar concepts such as Flying Tiger and various U.S.-based dollar stores, brings an array of products to the table, setting itself apart with its meticulous organization. The Sunset Valley Marketfair store will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., broadening options for shoppers looking for a quick, endearing, or practical purchase.
