The City of Dallas has been named as a finalist in the IDC Government Insights' Seventh Annual Smart Cities North America Awards, shining a spotlight on its commitment to upping the ante in digital and civic engagement. Competing in the Civic Engagement category, Dallas is being recognized for making strides in data analytics and accessibility.
A total of 36 finalists were named in the awards, with Dallas County also making the list, looking for a win that would place them at the forefront of Smart City development. According to the City of Dallas, these awards showcase government entities that showcase advancements and provide platforms to share best practices that propel regional Smart Cities forward.
A few of the initiatives that got Dallas on the map include the 311 Service Request Dashboard, which lets residents get the scoop on city services straight from the source, in real-time. There's also the City Manager Goals Dashboard, an insight treasure trove into Dallas’ strategic targets, handily available in English and Spanish to break down barriers.
Not one to shy away from tough issues, Dallas' Domestic Violence Dashboard is an interactive tool designed to shed light on this grim issue, championing transparency and support with its findings. The Dallas Fire-Rescue Dashboard is another feather in the city’s cap, giving real-time stats on the emergency responses around town. "Being named a finalist in the IDC Smart Cities Awards reaffirms what we already know: that the City of Dallas is a national leader in data analytics and committed to digital and civic engagement, ensuring that important information is available to all residents," explained Dr. Brita Andercheck, the big brain behind Dallas' data, in a statement obtained by the City of Dallas.
