Tragedy struck a Dallas community as a domestic dispute turned deadly. Law enforcement responded to a welfare call at an apartment at 7500 Chaucer Place, where they found 52-year-old Lawanda Mitchell in critical condition on the floor. Mitchell, assaulted on February 22, succumbed to her injuries nearly three weeks later, prompting a charge upgrade for the suspect involved.
Following the initial incident, Dallas Police arrested 33-year-old Barron Wallace on March 1 after a preliminary investigation tied him to the assault on Mitchell. At the time of his arrest, Wallace faced charges including Injury to Elderly/Disabled Person, according to the Dallas Police Department.
The situation took an even more somber turn when the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office declared Mitchell's death a homicide due to her injuries. With Mitchell's passing on March 13, Wallace is now facing a murder charge while he remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail.
Wallace's initial arrest came after law enforcement executed outstanding warrants, and his current incarceration is a direct result of the escalating consequences of his alleged actions. This case, which has left a community in mourning, is recorded under case number 034661-2024 and continues to develop as the Dallas community grapples with the loss of one of its members.
