Daly City has seen a spike in criminal activity over the past week with muggings, commercial break-ins, and several vehicle-related thefts, leaving local law enforcement and residents on high alert. A recent crime bulletin issued by the Daly City Police Department has detailed the concerning pattern of incidents between February 26 and March 3.
Robberies emerged as a notable concern, with three egregious incidents reported. In one instance, on the evening of February 29, a suspect forcibly took a car key fob from a victim on the 500 block of King Drive before escaping in a gray sedan, authorities said. In another unashamed display of crime, Daly City's Serramonte Shopping Center fell victim to a brazen shoplifting and subsequent robbery when an individual resisted apprehension by asset protection employees after stealing a gray sweater, according to the bulletin. The suspect, a 21-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail.
Violence marred the robbery on February 27, where a suspect brandishing a gunshot an employee of Lucky's on Mission Street in the foot after demanding his wallet. The victim tried to alert others by banging on the doors but to no avail. Commercial burglaries also saw an uptick, with Pump Repair Service Company and a local Lucky's reporting forced entries and significant losses, including costly spirits and electronics.
Daly City recorded ten stolen vehicles in automotive crimes, with half eventually recovered. Among the incidents, a black Honda Civic and a Ford F250 were utilized in nefarious activities, including a heist on Allan Street where an electronic alignment tool and pliers valued at around $2,600 were pilfered. A series of four-vehicle burglaries highlighted the vulnerability of citizens' personal property, even within the apparent safety of parking garages.
The city's southern regions weren't spared, as exemplified by the pilfering of a cash register from Ming Yuan on Southgate Avenue and the swiping of personal belongings from vehicles throughout the area. While Daly City's Police Department continues its investigations, the number of cases, now pegged at 153 for the week, looms as a testament to the ongoing battle between order and chaos.
