A suspect has been cuffed for the fatal shooting that rocked Scottdale back in January, law enforcement officials said. Brandon Hatton, 31, of Decatur, was arrested and faces malice murder charges for the death of DeAngelo Ivey, 39, who was gunned down on Pressley Drive.
Details flowed in from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, which, with backup from the Georgia State Patrol SWAT, tracked down and arrested Hatton at a Sleep Inn in Lithonia, the last holdout of the suspect before he was taken away, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. The arrest unfolded at the 5400 Fairington Road lodging, putting an end to a manhunt that began after Ivey's life was cut short on January 28.
In a statement, the sheriff's office solidified Hatton's link to the case, he is now confined to the DeKalb County Jail, deprived of the possibility to post bond. The exact timeline of the arrest was not laid out by the officials.
Yet, the echoes of the deadly encounter linger in the Scottdale community. Hatton, who now awaits his turn in court, could face serious time behind bars if convicted of the malice murder charge stemming from the incident, according to Atlanta News First.
