A 21-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday in connection to a Douglasville Sweet 16 birthday party shooting that claimed the lives of two teenagers and wounded several others last year. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Michael Arthur Williams now faces a barrage of charges including two counts of murder, two counts of participating in a criminal street gang, ten counts of aggravated battery, and eleven counts of aggravated assault.

Authorities say that Williams had been attending school in Albany when he was taken into custody and transported to Douglas County Jail to face the charges. The shooting, which caused the untimely deaths of 15-year-old Samuel Moon and 14-year-old Ajanaye Hill, also injured 10 other teens during the incident on Sitka Drive. Previously charged in the case were Tahkel Marquise Beverly-Smart, Kingston Cottman, Timothy Lamar Coleman Jr., and twins Chase Terrence and Chance Terrell McDowell.

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Pounds hailed the efforts of the investigators, collaborating with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, for their unwavering pursuit of justice. Pounds reportedly praised the investigators and the district attorney’s office for utilizing every available resource to solve the case, as Atlanta News First states.

The party on March 5, 2023, which had over a hundred attendees, turned tragic when disputes led to the homeowner ejecting several youths for smoking marijuana. Shortly after, the celebration turned into a crime scene with gunfire erupting and leaving a community grasping for answers and healing. Homeowner Chrystal Walker-Cherry told FOX 5 that the shooter or shooters were not known to her, stating, "They didn't know the address of the house for the party and were waiting for the children to leave." This disturbing act of violence continues to impact the Douglasville community deeply as they grapple with the senselessness of it all.
