Chaos erupted on Interstate 94 near Telegraph Road Sunday evening as a vehicle was struck by gunfire, according to The Detroit News. The Michigan State Police were notified of the incident at approximately 4:20 p.m., leading to the swift closure of the freeway ramps while a search was conducted; fortunately, the driver emerged unscathed in the assault.
Still void of suspects or vehicle leads, the investigation forced the shutdown of westbound I-94 causing detours and traffic delays, ClickOnDetroit reported. The freeway doors slid shut, and then hours later, they swung open as if nothing had happened.
Michigan State Police had thought the gunshot might've sprouted from the neighborhood cresting the freeway, according to Detroit Free Press. Canine units canvassed the area, but no shell casings materialized from the ether.
“A bullet has no idea of its intended target. We are fortunate this round only hit a vehicle,” Lt. Mike Shaw stated. The search goes on, authorities beckoning the public’s gaze for clues, asking anyone with information to call 855.MICH.TIP.
