Tragedy struck East Nashville in two separate shootings, with bullets flying into a home and a brutal double homicide at an apartment complex, leaving the community reeling and searching for answers. According to WKRN, the first incident occurred shortly before midnight on Monday, where "dozens" of shots were unleashed into the back of a residence on Lischey Avenue, wounding a teenager and a woman; the latter was hit at least five times.
The victims of the midnight fusillade, who have sustained non-life-threatening injuries are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, the violence of the attack underscores a disturbing trend of gun-related incidents in the area. In a separate, yet seemingly unceasing stream of violence, two teenagers were shot near McFerrin Park in an earlier incident, WSMV reports. The mysteries that shroud these shootings hint at more than random acts, a grim fact that is punctuated by the weekend's cold-blooded killings of two other teenagers.
In these killings, 17-year-old Camron McGlothen, a resident of the Hermitage Flats Apartments, has been identified as one of the victims, as police work to notify relatives of the second, an 18-year-old. "Homicide Unit detectives are pursuing leads as they work to determine why two young men, ages 18 and 17, were targeted for fatal gunfire," revealed a statement by the Nashville Police Department, whose officers are seeking at least three assailants in connection with the murders, according to ABC News.
As investigators dive into the circumstances surrounding these spates of violence, no suspects have been brought into custody, adding to the palpable tension within the East Nashville community where the sounds of gunshots breaking the silence of the night has morphed into a grim and familiar echo, the investigations remain ongoing. Helpless residents are left navigating the aftermath, clinging to the hope that those responsible will be swiftly brought to justice and those injured by the indiscriminate bullets will find their way back to recovery as they lie in hospital beds.
