An East Nashville couple was taken into custody on appalling allegations of child rape spanning over five years. Forty-eight-year-old Angel Slattery and her significantly younger spouse, twenty-four-year-old Michael Slattery, now face a litany of charges, including the rape of a child, according to WSMV.

With a five-month-long investigation spearheaded by Detective Rachael Robinson of Metro Nashville Youth Services Division, the couple was indicted by a grand jury. Having custody of the victim "for a time," the child detailed being sexually abused together and also separately by the Slatterys. Charged with continuous sexual abuse among other accusations, the pair were arrested on Dickerson Pike, as per a report by WKRN.

The victim was just seven years old when the abuse began and endured these horrors over five years. This case, surely, is a tragic narrative that has rattled the community at its core. Metro Nashville police outlined the charges including five counts of rape of a child and displaying sex acts to a minor.

Both Angel and Michael Slattery are now waiting to face justice, arrested and staring down the grave reality of their alleged crimes that have imprinted lifelong trauma on an innocent. In a statement obtained by FOX17, the Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed the grand jury indictment and the extensive nature of the alleged abuse against the now twelve-year-old. The couple's bail and court dates have yet to be disclosed.
