A tragic highway collision left one woman dead and another critically injured on Tuesday near Franklin’s Westhaven neighborhood, officials said. The deadly incident involved three vehicles and occurred in the 3700 block of New Highway 96, according to the Franklin Police Department.
Authorities identified the deceased as 58-year-old Kimberly Wallace, of Dickson, who reportedly lost control of her vehicle, sideswiped a dump truck, and then collided head-on with a Honda Accord, FOX 17 reported. The catastrophic event happened around 6 p.m. and resulted in Wallace's transport to Williamson Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Honda was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and remains in critical condition. Meanwhile, the driver of the dump truck involved in the crash was not injured, law enforcement officials told WKRN. The details of the crash and the identities of those involved were released by the police gradually following the incident.
The Franklin Police Department acknowledged the crash happened near Westhaven Boulevard at about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, originally shutting down the New Highway 96 corridor for several hours, WSMV reported. Traffic was diverted as authorities conducted an investigation, and the road was reopened by 10 p.m.
Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement seeks to determine the exact cause of the wreck. Franklin Police Department advised the public to expect, more details to be released as they become available.
