FORT LAUDERDALE – In a grave appeal to the public, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department is on the hunt for a suspect responsible for a deeply troubling crime reported last month. Officials say a woman was sexually battered at gunpoint, and now law enforcement are asking for help to bring this individual to justice.
The attack occurred when a man, later seen in surveillance footage near Southeast 16th Street and South Federal Highway, trailed his victim in the early hours of Feb. 27, around 2:30 a.m. As per WSVN, after failing to rob the victim, a Hispanic male in his 20s, allegedly forced her into a gray Hyundai Sonata at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect, believed to be approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with short dark hair and a clean-shaven face, presented a particular hazard as he managed to elude immediate capture. According to the police, he was possibly dressed in a white t-shirt with a dark-colored sweater and long dark pants during the time of the assault. The vehicle in question is described as a Hyundai Sonata manufactured in either 2018 or 2019, noted for its dark tinted windows, making it a detail of interest in the ongoing investigation.
In response to this critical situation, the Fort Lauderdale Police have issued a public call to action, urging anyone with information or additional video footage that could assist in identifying the assailant to step forward. As detailed by CBS Miami, those who wish to contribute to the case can contact Detective Sergeant Hector Martinez at 954-828-5510 or Detective Christopher Chylack at 943-828-5535. Broward County Crime Stoppers is another avenue for anonymous tips and is offering a potential reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest – they can be reached at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
This plea for public assistance underscores the severity of the crime and the urgent need to apprehend the individual before another citizen falls prey to a similar fate. The Fort Lauderdale community remains on alert as authorities continue to gather evidence and solicit the public’s direly needed cooperation.
